SMEG Washing Machine Error Codes that begin with Fxx

F16, F34, F36, and F61: Door lock error

The error indicates that the door lock does not activate, and no program activates because the porthole door is open.

Causes:

  • The porthole door is open.
  • Faulty door microswitch

Solutions:

  • Close the door.
  • Check the door lock.
  • Check the door lock wiring.
  • Replace the door lock if necessary.

F17, F26, F27 and F31: Pressure switch error

The error indicates that the solenoid valve of the machine is taking too long to fill with water.

Causes:

  • The water tap is closed.
  • The intake water pressure is below 1 bar.
  • The water intake filter or supply is blocked.
  • Faulty solenoid valve.
  • Faulty pressure switch.

Solutions:

  • Open the water tap.
  • Check the inlet valve.
  • Check the pressure switch hose / clean the chamber pressure.
  • Check the pressure switch.
  • Check the wiring connections.

F18: Drain pump error.

The error indicates that the washer takes too long to drain.

Causes:

  • The drain pump is blocked.
  • Faulty drain pump
  • Faulty pressure switch.
  • The pressure switch chamber is blocked.
  • The drainage tube is blocked.

Solutions:

  • Switch the washer off and back on to reset.
  • Check the drain pump.
  • Check the pressure switch.
  • Check the wiring.

F19: Heater element error.

The error indicates that the water heating element takes too long to heat up.

Causes:

  • Faulty heater.
  • The voltage is low.
  • The heating element relay is blocked.
  • Faulty main PCB

Solutions:

  • Check the heating element.
  • Check the wiring diagram.
  • Replace the main PCB.

F20, F37 and F38: NTC (Heater Sensor) error

The error indicates that the heating element activates at a time when it should not be heating up.

Causes:

  • Faulty NTC (short or open circuit)
  • The heating element relay is blocked.
  • Faulty main PCB

Solutions:

  • Check the NTC
  • Replace the main PCB.

F23: Leakage error.

The error indicates that water is present at the bottom of the machine.

Causes:

  • Problems in the water safety system.
  • The water leakage activates the microswitch.
  • The safety float is blocked.
  • Faulty safety float

Solutions:

  • Check the water stop system.
  • Check the safety float microswitch located at the bottom of the machine.
  • Check the wiring connections.

F28: Flow meter error.

The error indicates that the water intake unit is not working.

Causes:

  • Faulty harness.
  • Faulty flow meter sensor

Solutions:

  • Check the wiring diagram.
  • Replace the flow meter sensor.

F29, F31 and F60: Inlet valve error

The error indicates that the water is not loaded.

Causes:

  • The water tap is closed.
  • The intake water pressure is below 1 bar.
  • The inlet valve filter is blocked.
  • Faulty inlet valve.
  • Faulty aqua stop.
  • Faulty main PCB

Solutions:

  • Open the water tap.
  • Check the inlet.
  • Check the wiring connections.
  • Replace the main PCB.
